What type of Tanning Equipment do you carry? At
Utopia We carry High Intensity Beds & Stand Ups Imported from
Europe, that have 2% UVB rays, so you get more of a bronzed look. How
long does it take to get tan? You will see results with your first
session. It takes about 3 to 4 sessions to build a base tan, depending
on your skin type. We recommend the use of a quality lotion to increase
your tanning potential and keep your skin feeling healthy and soft.
Why use lotion? The
lotions sold at Utopia are the finest products available. These lotions
are designed to deliver vitamins and minerals with maximum hydration.
Your skin will react by becoming healthier. It will produce more
melanin. Melanin is the pigment that allows your skin to turn brown
when exposed to UV light. When you use a quality lotion you will
increase your tanning efficiency by 60%.
Should I bring any sunscreen?
You do not need to use any sun block since the bed already controls the
amount of light you receive. We do sell lotions that are made for
indoor tanning. They will help to make you darker more quickly and keep
your skin well moisturized. We definitely recommend one!!
Why can't I use outdoor lotion? Most
outdoor lotions contain sunscreens, and that will only slow down the
tanning process, and you don't need a sunscreen because your exposure
to the tanning rays is controlled by the design of the beds and the
time you stay in them. You can't use any oil on a tanning bed because
it will destroy the acrylic on the bed; it will also smear it and block
the light.
Why do I need to wear eye protection?
Eye protection is required by law. The eyelid does not effectively
block ultraviolet while tanning. Therefore the use of approved eye
protection is required to insure that our customers do not suffer ill
effects such as cataracts or night blindness.
Is there anything I can do between tanning sessions to get better results? Absolutely!
Experts indicate that you skin continues to tan for up to 48 hours
after your last session. In other words, your body is still
metabolizing the UV exposure even after your session has ended.
Therefore, after-exposure tanning products have been created. The best
times to use them are after you shower and before you go to bed.
WHAT CAUSES WHITE SPOTS? There
are many reasons for white spots. The following are some of the more
commonly know reasons for white spots and can done to even out the
color of your skin. One reason for white spots is vitiligo. Usually
these spots are fewer in number and larger in size. The melanocyte
cells in the affected area are beginning to degenerate and die off.
Treating these spots requires medical attention. Another reason for
white spots is a scalp fungus know as tinea versicolor. This
microscopic fungus flakes off of the scalp on to the upper body, just
like dandruff, and remains unnoticed until a person starts to tan. Home
remedies for these problem spots include shampoos like extra strength
Head & Shoulders and extra strength Selsun Blue. Some tanning
lotion manufactures also have made a lotion to help eliminate these
stubborn spots. Birth control is also another cause of white spots.
Skin needs three things in order to help it tan-UVA, UVB, and oxygen.
No oxygen, no tanning occurs. In the stages of tanning, oxygen comes
from the bloodstream underneath the skin. The pressure created on
certain spots of the body from lying on the acrylic sheet. Body size is
not the deciding factor. The remedy?
Move. A person doesn't need to roll over on the acrylic to do this.
Those suffering from white spots on their back side should use the flat
part their right forearm and, if needed, the flat part of their right
foot to rise up one side of the body from the acrylic sheet. Give your
skin a chance to breathe. Lower that side, and then raise the other and
do the same thing. Tanners might have to do this two or three times a
session to maintain good circulation, but this practice should
eliminate those white spots
